Thumbnail Maker

The eSDO Thumbnail Maker used the IVOA java libraries to produce thumbnail images from solar FITS files. The tool produces 256 by 256 pixel JPEG files that display the original file's name and observation date. The Thumbnail Maker can be used by launching a Java Webstart GUI at http://msslxx.mssl.ucl.ac.uk:8080/esdo/visualization/jnlp/esdo_thumbnailmaker.jnlp or by calling ThumbnailMaker from the commandline after importing the esdo_visualization.jar.

Input: Local FITS file or URL, full output path on local machine

Output: JPEG image with filename format inputfilename_thumb.jpg written to the output path specified by the user.

  1. Launch the Thumbnail Maker.
  2. In the text field next to "Input", enter a URL pointing to a FITS file (for example, http://msslxx.mssl.ucl.ac.uk:8080/esdo/visualization/testdata/efz20011231.173610) or the full path and filename of a local file.
  3. In the text field next to "Output", enter the full path to the location where the thumbnail image should be written.
  4. Press "Thumbnail."
  5. When the Thumbnail Maker completes, a dialogue box will pop up confirming the name and location of the output thumbnail image.
