eSDO Refactoring Issues

Algorithms

  1. ALL - refactor code to
    • accept standard AIA and HMI products as input
    • provide API for JSOC pipeline
  2. Small events - 5 field-of-view parameters currently read from hardcoded fov.txt with path/to/fov.txt set as environment variable in script. Either 1) allow users to input their own fov.txt, 2) autogenerate fov.txt from image parameters read during cubemaker process, or 3) have 5 extra commandline parameters instead.
  3. Small events / coronal dimming - create cubemaker script to generate input datacube from AIA images (minimum) and also TRACE hourly, CDS, EIT, etc. Allow to specify output file name (including path) - get rid of hardcoded "_coronal_dimm_out.fits" and "_small_events_out.fits" output names. Add unit tests?
  4. Magnetic Extrapolation - write cubemaker script to generate input Bx, By, Bz datacube from standard AIA / HMI data products. Also generate input initialization ascii file containing nx, ny, nz, mu, and nd variables, or refactor as commandline inputs.
  5. Helicity - initialization .dat file is a complex ascii file required along with the FITS file containing output from Mag Extrap code. Provide "initialization maker" tool or script.
  6. Mode Parameters - currently allows up to 2 directory locations for MDI data. May need to allow customization up to n directories for HMI data.

Visualization

  1. Images currently stored for streaming tool as JPEG (lossy compression) with no metadata
  2. For analysis package, either store as highest quality JPEG or as PNG (better) with FITS keywords written as image metadata
  3. Request source code for Ani S applet and refactor to read PNG images and (maybe) display images from remote server?
  4. Add ability to interact with images other than zoom / pan - should be able to select box and zoom
  5. Add overlays? (Already part of AniS package)

Data DRMS / SUMS / DSA / STAP

  1. Updated STAP specification - allow wavelength selection
  2. eSDO DRMS built with gcc; rebuilt with icc if necessary
  3. Hosting Warwick periodmaps in UK SUMS: issues
    • Does algorithm require full cadence, full-disk, full resolution AIA images for both active and quiet sun?
    • If so, either 1) run algorithm in CA instead of UK, or 2) may as well store and serve full disk AIA images to UK users
    • Periodmap algorithm should be run where images are stored (to save network traffic / storage space) - in UK, should either have both algorithm and SUMS at Warwick or both at MSSL
