Idea from conversation with LucieGreen and TraceyPoole. Develop a simple ontology to let children explore concepts and navigate to images, spectra and time series that don't require further processing.

Technical side

  1. Develop simple space concept ontology - maybe use Ed Shaya's or Sebastien Derriere's?
  2. Use prefuse visualization code to make tool like Astroscope or Helioscope that can be clicked through to get to data URLs at end. Example:
    • Tick images, spectra or time series checkbox
    • Initial bubbles - astro, solar, climate
    • Click bubble to navigate to galaxy, star, event, etc.
    • Have other bubbles sticking out (location, galaxy type, event type) that, if clicked, will grey out other bubbles on branches not having corresponding data?
    • Helioscope example - for instance, if corresponding EIT / MDI files wanted, grey out EIT files not exactly overlapped with MDI?

Science side

  1. ID datasets with graphics, spectra and time series appropriate to children
  2. ID concepts that would make appropriate bubble labels / ontology elements
