Installation Notes for VOEvent

Download

  1. wget "http://downloads.sourceforge.net/voevent/Astro-VO-VOEvent-0.9.tar.gz?modtime=1148333061&big_mirror=0"
  2. gunzip Astro-VO-VOEvent-0.9.tar.gz
  3. tar xvf Astro-VO-VOEvent-0.9.tar
  4. open Astro-VO-VOEvent-0.9/README

Make

  1. % perl Makefile.PL PREFIX=/home/griduser/elizabeth/AstroEvents/eSTAR
  2. % make
  3. % make test (tests mostly fail - ignore for now)
  4. % make install
  5. Installed:
    • /home/griduser/elizabeth/AstroEvents/eSTAR/lib
    • /home/griduser/elizabeth/AstroEvents/eSTAR/share

Client

  1. Use CPAN to install XML::Simple, XML::Parser, XML::Writer, XML::Writer::String (all installed to /home/griduser/perllib
  2. Add /home/griduser/perllib and /home/griduser/elizabeth/AstroEvents/eSTAR/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.3 to PERL5LIB in .bash_profile
  3. source .bash_profile
  4. Try voeventclient.pl:
    -bash-2.05b$ perl voeventclient.pl
    USAGE: voeventclient.pl [-host hostname] [-port portname]
  5. -bash-2.05b$ perl voeventclient.pl -host www.estar.org.uk -port 80
    Opening client connection to www.estar.org.uk:80
    Socket open, listening...

Try running test server below to see what happens when packets are received.

Server

  1. Edit event_test.pl; either change port number or leave default "9999"
  2. -bash-2.05b$ perl event_test.pl
    Starting server...
    LocalHost: 128.40.71.12 and LocalPort: 8081
  3. Now run client, listening on same port:
    -bash-2.05b$ perl event_client.pl -host 128.40.71.12 -port 8081
    Opening client connection to 128.40.71.12:8081
    Socket open, listening...
