This page is dedicated for the Current setup and description of all the machines at MSSL.
This page will describe:
  • Machine Name and Spec.
  • Servers (with there services) running associated with the Grid.
  • Applications on the Grid running.
  • Databases running assoicated with the Grid and there uses.

?-New Grid machine:
Description: Recently received 2 days ago, not setup yet. Being the more powerfull machine it will most likely become a machine to run applications placed on the Grid. Such as Galactic Models.

  • 4GB, 400MHz DDR-SDRAM
  • 320GB Harddrive at 7200RPM
  • DVD +/-R/RW

Description: Main Production Grid machine primarily used for Astrogrid. Used as well for DataSource (MySQL Database) for Astrogrid. Currently running Applications on the Grid as well.
  • 2GB, 400MHz DDR-RAM
  • 120GB Harddrive at 7200RPM
  • DVD +/-R/RW

Server and Services:
  • Tomcat port 8080.
  • astrogrid-community - MSSL community used in Astrogrid. Hosts the groups, accounts, and membership information.
  • astrogrid-registry - Hosts the mssl.ucl.ac.uk registry entries which are Resources describing all the MSSL services and applications in a XML format.
  • astrogrid-dsa-solarimg - Data Service (Web Service) for connecting up to the data base and performing queries. This connects to the main data source for fits files containging Yohkoh, CDS, EIT.
  • astrogrid-cea-MSSL - Web Service for interfacing with applications, in this case command line applications.
  • SolarImgAccess - Small servlet to access mssly5 fits files via http from the outside world.

  • Solar Movie Maker - uses SolarSoft routines to reduce TRACE, SOHO-EIT and SOHO-CDS data into calibrated images. MPEG movies are generated from these images using the Berkely MPEG encoder.
  • Solar Overlay - also reduces TRACE, EIT and CDS data, but it also overlays images from all three instruments that fit into the same time window
  • Generic Movie Maker - uses the Berkeley MPEG encoder to generate MPEGs of any JPEG, GIF, PPM, or FITS image

  • MySQL/solarimg - Containing tables for CDS, EIT, and Yohkoh data (as well as a small subset of Trace). The columns for each table map directly for all the header keywords in a fits file along with there associated value. Each table has a required FitsLocation column pointing to a url of the fits files. This gives a significant advantage to the possibly of pointing to external datasourced fits files, such as EIT is currently pointing to the VSO archive for there url data.
  • MySQL/community - Tables for the Astrogrid community service.

Description: Main Production Grid machine primarily used for SDO.

  • 2GB, 400MHz DDR-RAM
  • 120GB Harddrive at 7200RPM
  • DVD +/-R/RW

Servers and Services:

  • Tomcat port 8080

Description: Currently main EGSO machine at machine, hosting the Solar Event Catalogue datasource along with other EGSO services.
Servers and Services:
  • Tomcat port 8080
  • astrogrid-pal-sec - Web Service connecting to the main datasource on msslxz which is the Egso SEC (Solar Event Catalogue)

  • Postgres/sec - Postgres database holding the data from the Solar Event Catalogue

Description: Holds all MSSL Fits files used on the Grid, and has a restricted http connection for certain machines such as msslxv for obtaining the Fits files via http stream.

Servers and Services:

  • Apache port 80 - restricted use

DataSources Holder of raw files of - Yohkoh, Goes, CDS, Trace, and others.
