Comments on Errors

Note: a summary of the NHK messages encountered this month, listed in increasing frequency of occurrence, may be found at http://msslje.mssl.ucl.ac.uk/lists/nhklis_2006-06.txt

Slewabort message

At 2006-06-17 23:09:02 UVOT did not apparently respond in time to a slew warning, which lead to TDRSS warning and a switch to blocked Idle. Approximately 2.5 minutes later, the UVOT responded correctly to the next slew warning. At approximately the same time the TC from UVOT ICU Reject Counter (SBCRJCTTC_ICU) incremented. This is appears to be a recurrence of S-0074 and is under a watch.

DPU INF TMALI full

At 2006-06-06 16:49:12.37, the DPU input queue filled up during White filter observations of GRB060604.

Busy

At 2006-06-16 17:08:00.79 there was apparently an HV ramp failure warning which appeared to be a recurrence of MSSL NCR 155; SERS anomaly S-0203. This proved to be simply bad quality data and therefore never happened!

Large Absolute Drift

At 2006-06-10 08:56:07.79, a Large Absolute Drift error was received. Shortly after 2006-06-10 08:59:12.83, the spacecraft went into safehold and was recovered a couple of hours later.

Large Settled Position Error

At 2006-06-18 05:18:01.55, a Large Settled Position Error was received. UVOT went to safe. At 2006-06-18 05:21 UT: "Star Tracker Not Ok" was reported. At 2006-06-18 05:29 & 05:42 UT: BAT triggered on a known source but did not recognize this due to the position error. At 2006-06-18 ~05:40: On-call FOT (Mark Hilliard) determined that the Star Tracker was not recovering a good lock on its own. Swift Transitioned into sun-mag pointing. After analysis of VC7 data, it was concluded that a quarternion spike occurred, resulting in an attitude jump and loss of star tracker lock. The post-event attitude error was 0.9 degrees. Triggers were re-enabled at 10:45 UT, then UVOT to idle and FoM functions at 10:50 UT.

Limit Exceeded

At 2006-06-08 18:38:11.32, 2006-06-10 04:06:35.22 and 2006-06-19 05:12:59.59 there were occurrences of Safety Trip alerts which did not trigger on the second poll, thus preventing unnecessary transitions to Safe.

Illegal MID

There were 3 occurences of this message [2006-06-10 11:33:04.62, 2006-06-10 11:34:11.23 and 2006-06-10 12:06:01.02]. They have been logged as MSSL NCR 162. They were caused bu an uninitialized variable leading to the incorrect reporting of ICB errors, which were in turn due to the telescope module being powered off.
